Llashana was born into an isolationist sect of axolotlan society deep within the Veilwood. Revering an ancient Stonecrab and living in a large cave complex only accessible through an underwater entrance, Lash's society rarely mingled with outsiders other than a few select aquan traders and several feyfolk venatori who patrolled nearby forests and lakes in search of monsters.
The majority of the members of Lash's community were quite old, especially by axolotlan standards. Venerated elders were common rather than the norm, and most families only had one child, leaving a dwindling population of youngfolk and an abundance of elderly. The society revolved around appeasing an enormous and ancient stonecrab which lived in the central cavern of the cave system. The stonecrab was considered a God to the community, and once a year when the creature — which bore frills like an axolotlan growing through its boulder-like shell — awoke, each member of the society would be tasked with offering it a sacrifice. In return it was believed that the stonecrab granted those within its external body — the cave itself — long life, health, and protection, and indeed these things seemed true. The axolotlans living near the stonecrab even began to develop spots and patches of darker, tougher 'scales' as generations passed.
Lash was not a fit for her community. Lash was an explorer, and more than once had been caught venturing outside of the cave, though she was always dragged back before surfacing on the other side of the water. While initially trained to be a cook, tailor, and caretaker like most female axolotlans in her society, due to her stubborn streak, she was eventually paired with male teachers to learn male roles such as building, smithing, and forging. She was even made a guard for a brief week before the elders decided that it was probably not a good idea to give an escapist guard duties.
Lash did eventually escape her society, her yearning for the outside world too great. Unfortunately for her, her escapade was interrupted less than an hour's travel from her home when she was attacked in the woods by some sort of blackened monster. Llashanna nearly lost her hand and would have lost her life were it not for one of the selfsame feyfolk venatori who knew of her society's existence, the hunter coming to her aid and lighting the creature aflame before it screamed into the night. Injured and with nowhere to go, Lash followed the venatori and was eventually allowed to make camp with them. Her tailoring, cooking, and smithing skills were put to use and honed, and for a time she had a new home, and even gained a boon from the feyfolk with whom she travelled!
Llashanna may have remained a wandered of the woods and a supplementary hunter of monsters for a long while had their camp not been ambushed one dark and gloomy night. Lash tried to help defend her comrades, but she was no warrior, and when the last true monster hunter fell, Lash fled into the darkness rather than standing and fighting an impossible battle. Lash was no hero.
The odd axolotlan girl ended up finding and making a home in a tiny town in the Veilwood, her half-honed skills much desired by the small community. So it was that Llashanna grew to be a renowned repairsmith, especially among the venatori who began to trickle in from near and far to have their gear strengthened and secure by the little lavender lass with a big hammer. After a year or two her name — or at least her occupation, location, and the steadiness of her hammer arm — had reached the ears of those who supported the Orathos reclamation effort. Lash's 'encouraged conscription' to the cause by the venatori didn't bother her. While she was no warrior and certainly no hero, she was most definitely a born explorer, and so were the members of the reclamation!
