Date: 2nd Midspring, 4E 1396
Location: The Port City – primarily in the noble Highside district, shops, forges, and streets around the docks.
Party Goals:
- Prepare for the voyage across the sea (gear, supplies, upgrades).
- Strengthen weapons/armor for threats encountered previously (silvering, reinforcement).
- Balance personal business (Kain’s Flame Queen sermons, Lash’s smithing, Ashlyn’s recovery, etc.) with collective readiness for travel.
Morning – Kain’s Wedding and Ash Warden Healing
The session begins with Kain the Blessed performing a marriage ceremony for two dwarves seeking a “cheap wedding.” Though Kain doubts their sincerity in the Flame Queen’s faith, he proceeds, using up a spell slot and pocketing 25 gold. The crowd in the church celebrates, throwing confetti — much to the dismay of a tired custodian forced to clean it at 2 a.m. The ceremony, despite its oddity, briefly brightens the atmosphere.
Meanwhile, Ashlyn Blackwood seeks healing from the local Ash Warden clerics. Though she is already near full strength, she insists on receiving a blessing. The Ash Warden over-heals her, leaving Ashlyn with a lingering “healing sickness” — a queasy sensation like having drunk too much water. It’s harmless but unpleasant.
Lash and Brevo – Outfitting and Upgrades
Lash, still in close company with her companion Brevo, begins the day with a mix of intimacy and humor, then ventures into the Highside noble district for shopping. Brevo worries for her safety and insists on helping her purchase equipment.
- First Stop – Armorer’s Shop:
Run by a middle-aged elven craftsman with centuries of expertise. He recommends reinforcing Lash’s blacksmith apron rather than replacing it. Lash briefly asks about exotic materials like mermaid scales, but none are available. Instead, the apron is upgraded with hidden reinforcements, granting +1 AC and fire resistance. While the elf works, Lash and Brevo relax in a sauna, with Lash being her usual unselfconscious self. - Second Stop – Blacksmith Forge:
The forge smells of brass being worked — unusual compared to the standard copper arms distributed in the port. Lash questions an elderly smith with a great beard, who explains brass is used for officers’ ceremonial armor since it resists rust, though it is brittle in battle. Their banter touches on Kain’s fire magic and Lash’s new fire-proof apron.
Lash also purchases raw materials for silvering. An apprentice half-cyclops boy delivers a large silver ingot — enough to silver a single weapon. Lash insists she prefers doing her own smithing, intending to work with it during the sea voyage.
Party Business and Preparations
Throughout the day, the party scatters and regroups across the noble district. Shopping, minor errands, and conversations fill the time. Brevo, ever supportive (if clingy), foots much of the bill. Lash’s antics (like casually stripping in shops) draw bemused reactions, but ultimately the group secures much-needed supplies.
The session closes with the group consolidating their purchases and preparing for the voyage. They are stronger, better equipped, and — though still scattered in focus — ready to set sail when called.
