Tomplings
What — A field of sentient mutant tomatoes created when Duck Dillinger, a platypus farmer in Ponterford, used a magical plant-growth product on his crops; antagonist swarm.
Threat — Low–moderate. A comedic encounter that nonetheless "posed a genuine combat threat and required the party's intervention to defeat"; the fight itself was short ("the actual fight took maybe a minute," Session 34).
Observed abilities
- Bite attack — drew blood: Duck's cow Mary Mel was "favouring three of her four legs due to a fresh bite leaking blood and tomato juice" (Duck Dillinger note, Session 34). No attack bonus, save DC, or damage dice observed.
- Speech via Thalia's Speak with Plants — demanded "eyes," to be "led to war," and articulated grievances against all tomato-eaters; named Duck atop a "fifty-thousand-tomato kill list" (Session 34).
- Gap: No AC, HP, damage, save, or spell numbers appear in the Session 34 transcript — the combat is only referenced after the fact ("the tomato creatures we killed"), never rolled out on record. Treat all stats as unknown; do not invent.
Tactics & behavior — "Rabid, mouth-breathing," moving en masse as a swarm; attack tomato-eaters on sight and seek vengeance. Had to be fenced in by Duck to contain them. No flee/surrender behavior recorded.
Disposition to the party — Hostile. The party are tomato-eaters and slew the field; Thalia earned the nickname "Tomato Betrayer" for killing them (Thalia Blackthorn note, Session 34).
Status — Dead. The Ponterford field was defeated/killed in Session 34 (counted toward the town bounty). Referenced again, but not re-encountered, in Session 38. The world's broader "all plants are sentient" revelation may foreshadow similar threats, but this specific group is gone.
SUMMARY: Vengeful sentient tomato swarm, biters, slain in Session 34; no stats recorded.
