Dragon-Slaying Arrow
A single +3 arrow of dragon slaying, pulled out of the spine of the Deep Skeleton Dragon in Session 54. Along with the Dragon-Slaying Short Sword in its skull, it is one of only two things from the dragon's first death that survived however many centuries the body spent buried — which is how Magra and Jex knew, mid-fight, that it had to be magic. Everything else that fought the thing rotted away.
It was lodged where a heart would be, shot through the ribs and into the back of the chest cavity from the far side.
Properties
- +3 to hit and damage, and the bonus "can be hard forced onto anything" — it is not restricted to draconic targets.
- Double damage against dragons.
- 10 uses. After ten shots the magic wanes out of it.
- No self-recovery. It has to be physically retrieved after every shot — if the target flies off with it, or it sails off a cliff into the sea, that use is simply gone. (The GM confirms a quiver-returning enchantment exists and would fix the retrieval problem; it would not add uses.)
Recovered (Session 54)
- Silithane tried to draw it at disadvantage (small target, wet bone) and rolled a natural 1; Magra burned her reroll reaction on him purely for the comedy, and he rolled another 1.
- He pulled it free and put it through himself — one piece of ammunition's worth of damage, doubled to 12 because he is a dragon, which is the most authoritative ruling the campaign has yet produced on that running joke. Magra wrenched it back out of him without a check.
- A d2 decided whether it was an arrow or a crossbow bolt. It came up arrow, so it went to Jex rather than Magra.
- The GM's standing offer: after five uses, Lash could spend a night reforging it into a bolt, so Magra gets the other five.
