Ten Trinkets Tony
A travelling trinket peddler at New Halfwood — "10 Trinkets Tony" — who flares open a huge coat hung with jingling, price-tagged magic items ("all tested, certified, real magic"), prices from 1 gold to 500. Works alongside the flower-selling girl; "open 24 hours, just wake us up if we're asleep."
(Distinct from Tony the Anteater, Thalia's pet.)
Session 45
- The legendary item. Met as the party is escorted into New Halfwood. To Fenric's magic-sight, nine of his wares read as small magic items — but one genuinely glows with the power of a legendary item, hard to even look at. The party defers buying until after speaking with Thanhold; a thread to pull.
Session 46
- The full ten trinkets. Tony walks his entire stock: a once-a-day whisper shell (record/replay a voice), the "legendary" amulet (which Fenric's Identify proves does nothing at all — "a wizard said so, I have the certificate"), a pocket acorn (grows a tree in ~an hour), a Houndmaster's whistle (summons fighting dogs), a phoenix-ash pendant (saves you from death once), a sailor's knot, a moonlight pebble (and a tennis-ball-sized "fat" one), an investigator's magnaglass, and a don't-get-lost coin. He pitches the 12-payments-of-40-gold scheme to dodge Laewendas's tax on purchases over 50.
- Sales. Sells Lash the Houndmaster's whistle (100g), Thalia two pocket acorns (5g each) and the big moonlight pebble (75g) — and buys Thalia's never-bending needle for 5g. Down to seven trinkets, then back to eight.
Session 48
- New stock. Restocks three new trinkets as the party passes back through camp: beekeeping gloves, an ointment that "heals one pig of any ailment," and a needle that never bends — which Jex points out is the very one his friend sold Tony last visit ("new to you"). No sale; the haggling ends with Tony branding Jex "the always-wrong customer."
