Songbird
A small (~3½-ft) water nymph, blue-skinned and purple-clad in water-resistant commoner clothes, who joined the party at New Halfwood. Gentle, melancholy and a little dim, he is displaced from the water ("not on good terms with the water anymore") and was, for ~13 weeks, mobbed by a growing flock of hummingbirds he believed were tormenting him. Despite the name, he insists he is not a bird and doesn't even like them.
(Name confirmed Songbird per player ruling — the name he goes by, not a nickname or title given in-session. See Canon Questions.)
Session 48 — joins the party
- The bird mystery. Met at New Halfwood swarmed by 6–8 hummingbirds (one new bird every two weeks for ~13 weeks): half serenade him, half shred his clothes. Fenric's mage-hunter Arcana confirms it's neither a curse nor natural; the party can't crack it. Thalia reads him as a water nymph who "shouldn't even be out here."
- Solved by Stunghelm. At the zombie pile, Stunghelm Elkheart Speaks with Animals and gets the story: migrating from the western coast, the birds were nearly caught and eye-harvested by a witch-woman of the woods; Songbird freed them from her cages, so they've followed their hero ever since — and had mistaken his clothing for an ambush predator (now reassured it won't eat him).
- "A bird guy now." Told the birds adore him, he abandons his despair and keeps the flock. He packs his one belonging and travels on with the party to the Menagoles, where he gulps pumpkin juice, eats forever-soup, and has to leave his birds at the gate.
