Zantaya
A pale, white-eyed shapeshifter courier who has quietly kept Rivalon's mail routes alive under Laewendas's rule — side-shaved hair, pinstripe trousers, glowing white eyes, and visibly sleep-deprived. He slips past Laewendas's checkpoints by shifting through different forms (demonstrated two on the spot). Met by Thalia at a roadside tiny-race trading caravan on the Fort Foothold–Gwyndinas road in Session 11; added to the party's allies as a fellow postman and a potential pillar of a revived postal guild. Self-deprecating about the kingdom's naming conventions: "What am I, like, Xantaya the White?"
Session 11
- Deliveries traded with Thalia:
- Took two of Thalia's letters (legal over-milling complaints for the lumber mill manager in Chapston), saving her the trip.
- Handed her a wax-sealed letter addressed to Prince Lon — undeliverable for 4+ years; no one in the supposed destination village has ever heard of him.
- Confirmed Old Margaret Jr. deliberately won't return to Ankley — he personally handled the man's name-change paperwork both ways, so Thalia voided that message.
- Intelligence provided:
- Garruk the Red — Laewendas's most notorious roving tax enforcer.
- Smiling Sam — a serial killer operating in Gwyndinas that "nobody really knows anything about." (Earliest mention of the case, predating Dominus's Session 12 briefing.)
- Scary Joe — gave Thalia soft leads (a small hamlet such as No Falls, Chapston, or Burton-by-the-Waters; possibly living under a new name like "Joseph"). Zantaya did not personally know him.
- Laewendas is propped up by nine henchmen; removing a handful would crack her hold on the capital. Her strategy is isolation — destroying roads and mail stations to cut settlements off.
- Inside Gwyndinas: stick to the Blue district, avoid Red and Brown, and steer clear of the south-side discount magic market (cursed knockoffs).
- Several secret couriers inside the Palisade have shelved their work for fear of Laewendas — potential postal-guild recruits if someone rouses their courage or clears their backlog.
- Beyond the Palisade is grim either way, per Zantaya: main roads bring Laewendas's bandit tax collectors, off-road brings monsters that "shouldn't be in the woods."
