Laila
A woman of the Veilwood kept in the pitch-black far cell of The Urina's jail —
the Rat King says she "makes a fine prize for the others to fight for" and has her
re-kidnapped whenever she gets out. Even behind bars she radiates a being-watched dread
(the party dubbed her "the night demon"); she extinguishes lights with a glance. Wants
only to return home to the Veilwood. (Name heard once — spelling unconfirmed; see
Canon Questions.)
Session 4
- Released by accident when Goopo Jr. kicked the wrong lever during the
Handsome Jane rescue. - Spared the unconscious jailer (whom Kain offered as a sacrifice); gave a
respectful nod only to Fenric and greeted him in a Vale-ish slang of Orathos —
woods-folk recognizing each other. - Doused the kitchen-hall lights on her way out and announced she'll sneak aboard
the party's boat to Orathos tomorrow night.
Session 6
- She made it aboard. Thalia found her hiding in the lower deck's dark corner
of The Expedition Ship, shielded by the Ultra Virgin and the Potato Man as
human deterrents — grey skin matted with camouflage makeup, pinkish eyes. The first
person she'd spoken to in weeks. - Her curse revealed: spectral ghost assassins hunt her daily (masked, hooded,
twin daggers — one burst through the hull when she lit a candle). Killing them only
buys a day, so she hides. She is a master of stealth — her whispered coaching made
Thalia effectively invisible. - Her plan: kill the man on the island who did this to her — probably in the
Veilwood ("fucked-up science in the backwoods energy"). "If it doesn't [stop],
I think I'm gonna kill myself." Thalia volunteered the party's help. - Keen on testing Lash's Silvered Short Sword on one of the dark
elf's caged sea-spirits; introduced herself with a lifetime-practiced handshake.
Session 7
- Still aboard, now with allies: found again near the coffins — invisible, "like a
glass pane," giving the party a friendly wave — teamed up with a trio of three-headed
armored skeletons ("the lord, lady and liege of Boneyville") bound for Orathos. - Reaffirmed her plan to Silithane and the others: dock, wait for night, travel
under cover of darkness and subterranean caves to the Veilwood border, and hunt the
man who cursed her — "I intend to break their concentration on such a curse
permanently." When pressed on who cursed her: "a long story that I do not share." - The silver test vindicated her hope: the party confirmed (on a caged ghost) that a
silvered weapon kills the spectral assassins. She also wants a 10-foot anti-sun
"bubble" trinket she once couldn't afford ("I should have just killed him"); Orathos's
wartime trade may carry one.
