Edgar Wy

The lone lawyer of Ponterford — a small, bespectacled half-fox/half-wolf beastfolk who calls himself "the legal proprietor of this village," "highly trained in lorecraft." His pet-friendly office sits in the first house at the bottom of the southern hill (which the whole party manages to walk past twice). A trust-based, honourable man frustrated by the loggers' "flagrant transgressions" of the law he upholds; he charges only for paperwork actually filed, not for consultation.

(First named secondhand in Session 35 ("Edgar Wiley," the will-writer); met in person Session 37. Spelling "Wiley" a best guess.)

Session 37 (debut)

• Laid out the frog-folk land law. The loggers may legally fell trees on land they own, but King Ringo's frog-folk own the river and 15–20 ft of its old course (where it ran when the village was founded — ownership stayed put as the river meandered), so the cutting is trespass and theft. The guards ignore it — racial bias against beastfolk, plus the mill pays the town's wages — and rubber-stamp the loggers' "a tree drew a knife, it was self-defence" claims.
• Proposed the fix: the party builds a fence around the frog-folk's land and Edgar files a change-of-use deed making it private property, so any logger inside is a trespasser with no self-defence cover. Offered King Ringo a hefty discount out of spite for the loggers, and recommended the woodworker Norman to build it.
• Drew up Lash's last will and testament (the 900-gold owl IOU settled first, the rest to the party) and an adoption certificate making Salamandine her legal pet — 4 silver total; copies kept locally and at a hidden central archive.
• Raised the idea of Jex registering as a person (lab-made, she legally "doesn't exist" — and so can't own land or pets, isn't protected, and can't even be properly imprisoned); Jax declined for now.
• Noted that the postal trade is illegal under Laewendas, so Thalia must take care not to be mistaken for a postwoman. Named "Schniepel" (the head of the guard, i.e. Facey) and the sheriff as tied below the Laewendas-installed acting mayor Belbermont.
