Tycho
The healer of Eldrich the Elder's caravan — and, per Eldrich, a transparently bad Varian spy sent to keep an eye on him (or on Dr. Provostinalkov, or someone). A handsome young human clerical man in heavy armor with a comically tall helmet, a swishy little cape, and a spear; he heals with a green palm-glow and is loudly, proudly "a Rivalonian Reclamation Man from Rivalon." Eldrich reads his name as "an amalgamation of Michael and the wrong letter." He carries a treasured 25-year-old "Healer of the Year 1372" certificate.
(Our older notes render the name "Tycho"; the canonical spelling is "Tichael" — the Varian convention of "Michael" with one letter changed. Filename kept as "Tycho" to avoid breaking older links. See Canon Questions.)
Session 21
- Joined Eldrich the Elder's caravan as its healer; greeted the party demanding "full names, dates of birth, and Reclamation badge numbers… in case you die."
- Proved his healing is real by mending Magra's self-inflicted bolt-wound through the palm, and re-set Silithane's "dance-twisted" knee unprompted (knowing which knee before being told).
- Silithane forgery-checked his certificate: genuine text, but the supervising trainer's stamp was meticulously erased — someone scrubbed the human link to his past, making him hard to trace. A "Reclamation officer Dormers" name-drop drew nothing.
- Comic running gag of the session: the least subtle spy imaginable, sings the national anthem when asked where he's from. "He's just a regular spy."
Session 22
- Killed. After a session of hopelessly bad spying — crouching at the inn's windows, "talking to a horse," and reading last rites at a child's grave to dodge Thalia's fury — he is undone not by the party but by the inn's stable master, who sledgehammers him unconscious and (with Lash declining to intervene) caves his skull in: "Only good spy is a dead spy."
- Lash loots the body — a real reliquary with a tapestry scrap (a faith he only pretended to), a brass censer and incense, 11 sp / 70 cp, smashed splint mail, a shield, and a book of information — then strips the corpse and drags it off into the bushes, leaving "a trail of blood" for the settlement to puzzle over. The GM's only objection to feeding him to Squishy was doing it in the middle of a settlement, where onlookers would kill the salamander.
- His death leaves Eldrich the Elder's caravan without its only healer, and his true handler — who scrubbed his training record — was never identified.
Session 23
- Eaten. The salamander finished the job off-screen. Asked whether a body found in the road was his, Lash answered flatly: "No, we ate all the Tycho" — and the GM rolled to see whether a mouthful of sentient flesh turned Squishy feral. A 15 resisted the call to violence, and the salamander's diet stays bugs and crustaceans.
- A posthumous use: Lash melts down his ruined splint mail at the inn's trough to forge the stable master's horseshoes. Thalia keeps "I saw nothing" about his off-screen execution, fearing Eldrich the Elder's reaction.
