Vedanis the Evergreen

The archdruid of the Druid's Grove north-west of New Halfwood — a doctrinaire elder, killed (with all ~42 of his druids) by the necromancer Dreadweaver Corpsefortune and fused into the grove's amalgam-monster. Questioned by Silithane via Speak with Dead after the party slew the creature and separated the bodies.

Session 47 — spoken with (deceased)

• Identified among the dead. Found only after Silithane cast Identify across the jumbled bodies for ~8 hours; so little of him survived intact that he was named off two scattered parts.
• Pro-dome to the last. Refuses to reveal how to lower the thorn-dome he raised as his people's final protection — Speak with Dead leaves him unfriendly. His Reincarnate of a fellow druid fizzles (>10 days dead).
• Druidic creed. Lectures that bodies must be preserved, never destroyed, so the dead might one day be raised — "the worst thing that could happen to anything is to not live."
• The two deliveries. Tasks Thalia with carrying two tomes he orates (16 hours of transcription) to the groves of Kerri (the Site of the Ancients, already on the map) and Maelor Sings to the Rivers (Maelor's Grove, south of Atollia).
• On Clover. Reading Clover's aid-letter, he answers in three words why no grove will take her — "because of Stunghelm Elkheart", who trained her.
