Sheriff Jeremiah Falconer
The sheriff of Ponterford — a fit, short-haired human man in mixed leather-and-plate, a visible sheriff's badge, who prefers to stand and walk while he eats (the table likens him to David Beckham / Ryan Gosling). He keeps the town's bounty ledger (copied and redistributed daily), holds bounty rewards in trust so commoners and frog-folk don't keep gold at home, and "does his sheriffing" in the town's two Speak taverns. Wary but fair with armed strangers — he notes there are "bigger fish that would avenge this town" if adventurers start burning buildings.
(Heard as "Falconer" and "Falconet"; "Jeremiah Falconer" is the current guess.)
Session 34
- Met in the Aberforth Speakeasy; welcomed the party, handed over the bounty list, and paid out King Ringo's 100-gold crocolion bounty (suggesting 13 each and splurging the rest on food).
- Offered the next job: a south-side undead — just the head and neck of a "drake" skeleton that wakes each night to bite, blocking new house-building — and pledged to fight it shoulder to shoulder with a couple of men and a retired knight.
- Named Horibus the herbalist as able to heal the party further if they stay a few days.
Session 35
- Absent on screen, but his family home — the old Falconer house on the southern hill — is rented to the party (via the house-letter Abernathy Bogner), opening a window on his roots: his father is dead, his brother is the town drunk (worn down in part by the screaming wyrm next door), and the cramped 3-chair, shared-bedroom house implies a humble upbringing. A neighbouring druid recalls the old sheriff (the father?) fondly and dislikes the "spoiled backwater noble" who replaced him — i.e. Jeremiah.
Session 44
- The bounty he'd already paid. The party comes to him about the silenced drake skeleton, not knowing Valmora claimed and was paid the bounty days ago. Baffled by them "un-fixing" a closed, paid bounty, he refuses the paperwork — "I thought it was fixed, but now you've came in, I don't think it's fixed no more" — and just believes Valmora's original claim. Still met in the Speak Loudly/Speakeasy with his brother.
