Squire Rowaine
One of Eldrich the Elder's two caravan squires (the other being his bodyguard Squire Faethlyn) — the "Squire Rowan" seen making stilted small-talk with Faethlyn back in Session 21. A hair-flicking young swordsman, tired and put-upon but obedient to Eldrich's word.
(Rendered "Rowaine," "Rowan," "Ruin," and even "Cathalon" across one session — and the GM's "Ruin" collides with the unrelated Gwyndinas Inner Guard "Ruin/Rowan" of Session 17. Spelling/identity loose.)
Session 38 (debut on screen)
- Sent by Eldrich the Elder — along with Squire Faethlyn — to join the Guardian of the Woods hunt as an audition: the party is to report which squire fought better, so Eldrich can reward one and punish the other. Grumbles at being marched out to fight in the woods at 9 AM but obeys.
- In the dirt cloud he swings blind at the Guardian (disadvantage), and openly balks at the party's pivot toward siding with the forest — "I thought you brought me here to slay a monster to save humans, and now we're going to kill all the humans to help a plant?"
Session 39
- The comic relief. Thalia deliberately leaves him entangled and tied up the entire fight ("if he fails that save, that's his fault"); he stands up afterward to find the dryad already dead, kicks the corpse, trips over the vines tying his own shoelaces together, and gets a withering "how's the squireship going for you?" from Thalia.
Session 45
- Distrusted in the caravan. Rides with Eldrich the Elder's caravan (in awkward silence with the escort Rowan doesn't get along with); Thalia airs her bad-vibes suspicion of "Rowan, the knight-to-be" — "a little human psychopath… bigoted, maybe" — recalling how weird he was during the treant fight. Jex jokes he might be "infected"; Lash reckons he's "a spy."
