Session 52 — Made to Create and Destroy Life

Session Recap

Picking up on the session-ending cliffhanger deep in the Middle Tor mine, the party finishes the fight the blue-crystal vein started: the thing Lash chipped at is a spell-slinging crystal golem that lumbers out of the wall, buries the party under a rockfall, and flips the whole chamber into reverse gravity before Silithane finally shatters it with a Booming Blade sneak attack. It leaves behind a single, watermelon-sized crystal core — white, "epic" material that refuses to be moved by gravity — and a dead bat familiar (re-summoned over a short rest). Then the party goes exploring, and the deep mine stops being a mine at all. Behind the boring machine's churned rubble they find ancient brickwork — pristine, oversized bricks laid by hands 40 miles underground long before any miner — and follow reversible water canals, an overflow pool with a filter of drowned skeletons, and a string of kneeling black spectral "shades" that silently scream whenever the party does something the dead regret. The shades mark the mine's atrocities: the fire (deliberately set from multiple points, to seal the deep forever) and a screaming alarm room at the very end of the dig, whose Foredweller sirens beam "leave, leave, leave" into the mind of anyone who enters — the exact torment that drove the one surviving orc to burn everything.

Two discoveries close the session. First, in a burned dormitory, a shade kneels over a 220-foot pit; Lash is lowered down four tied-together ropes into a natural chasm and finds a titanic undead skeleton dragon — an "Elden Ring boss" of a thing — which she wakes by standing on it and barely escapes, the party sealing the pit behind her. Second, and far bigger: the alarm room's three sealed Foredweller doors turn out to hide a research facility of seventeen scientists who dug in from the other side of the mountain to study the Foredwellers (the "Ancients"/Elder race). Their manager, Dr. Xiao Li, walks the party through machines that make water from fire, and their gemologist reveals the mine's true prize: the glowing green crystal — the "panache" — is the same substance that grants immortality and the god-slaying material of the Godkiller Shard. This facility is where the Foredwellers refined the green shards the Autarch used to arm herself against the god-killing Emperor. The session ends mid-tour, deep in the mine, on the 22nd of New Summer. Still level 7.

SUMMARY: The party kills the blue-crystal golem (an immovable spellcaster that leaves an "epic" gravity-crystal core), explores the Foredweller ruins beneath the mine — brick canals, warning-shades, a psychic alarm room, and a 220-ft pit hiding a titanic undead dragon Lash barely escapes — then opens the deep doors onto a hidden 17-scientist research facility whose green "panache" is revealed to be both the immortality elixir and the god-slaying Shard of the Autarch. Still level 7, 22nd of New Summer.
