The Gravekeeper
The Menagoles' mortician, surgeon, gravekeeper and barber — a pipe-smoking, one-eyed kobold with one glowing red machine eye, working out of a hut in the church graveyard. Dry, observant, and openly contemptuous of Laewendas's Orathos Keep. The richest single source of intel the party found in the Menagoles.
(Per player review of Session 48, no personal name was recorded for him — the descriptor title stands until the GM names him. See Canon Questions.)
Session 48 (first met)
- The ash zombie. Met having just killed an "ash zombie" with a blood-stained spade — the corpse "died halfway" through the fight. Fenric recognises the cause: tearing apart the necromancer's book in Session 47 dropped the loose undead horde dead even this far away, saving the gravekeeper's life.
- The town's pattern, laid bare. Over several cigarettes he tells the party that since Orathos Keep went up ~a year ago, people who "know how to do things" keep vanishing — the alchemist Snuffles/Snuggles (a mole-man), a blacksmith, and the beloved one-eyed charity-knight Warwick — and that a walled estate-owner was murdered two days ago (the lead detective being the victim's lover).
- The mines. Recounts the town's spent tin mines and the orc Vara'nak, who burnt the mines ~a decade ago, leaving burnt survivors — and notes the fort was built around that time.
- Treats spies, dragons and "Dragon Wars" as half-joking gossip, but warns the party that anyone mentioning the Dragon Wars is "100% bullshit" (a telling thing to insist on).
