Clover
A young, scatty forest druid of the great woods — red traveller's coat, twine-and-natural-material bangles, feathers in her hair, a long wooden staff tipped with a sharpened scrap-metal shard. A committed pacifist who eats only Goodberries (and apples, bread — nothing whose death she causes), can cast only a few spells before tiring ("half-time"), and is, by her own admission, "not doing great so far" as a student. Allergic to the word "death." Met cornering a zombie elk; agrees to guide the party.
Session 45
- Met in the woods. Found in a hollow fallen tree trying (and failing) to Speak with Animals to a zombie elk, near Old Halfwood. Instantly bonds with Lash over their shared Goodberry-only diet and ethical eating.
- The lost elder. She has been walking in circles ~two weeks since her elder Stunghelm Elkheart ("Stungy") told her to flee while he "held them off" against an unknown threat, then vanished. A druid grove on the party's map (identified earlier by Daewynn) is the one he forbade her to visit until trained.
- The pacifist's call. Permits the party to put down the zombie elk, reasoning her way around her oath — "is it ending a life if it's not alive but just animated?" — and resolving it's "probably fine if I don't watch," eyes closed.
- The guide. Has seen other suspected undead in the woods, and keeps avoiding a "scary militia"; agrees to lead the party to it (and toward finding her elder). The convoluted path delivers them to New Halfwood.
Session 46
- Around the camp. Seen at New Halfwood's edge questioning the mage Humphrey about where her elder Stunghelm Elkheart went, then wandering off on her own. She never goes near the forbidden Druid's Grove.
- Confirmed safe. When the party finds Stunghelm Elkheart on the road and tells him Clover is alive, he's relieved — and notes that her being here (at the grove) would have been "terrible." Stunghelm's verdict on his apprentice is blunt: a likeable "failure" of a student. She stays back at the village.
Session 47 (her letter answered)
- Why she doesn't belong. Thalia reads Clover's sealed aid-letter — in which she asks why she's never good enough to be accepted into a grove — to the dead archdruid Vedanis the Evergreen. His three-word answer: "because of Stunghelm Elkheart." No grove of his kind will take a druid trained by the man who Sunbeamed a boy to dust while they let themselves be murdered. Clover is not present to hear it.
Session 48 — reunited
- The letter delivered. Reunited with Stunghelm Elkheart at New Halfwood (via his Tree-Stride), she's handed the Archdruid's reply to the aid-letter she once carried — with Thalia's bracketed "transcriber's note" insisting Stunghelm "isn't a bad guy." She treasures it in both hands and hides it from him. (She is not told the grove's verdict that she's barred because of him.)
- Chases the flying Stunghelm on foot, then works the zombie-burial pile alongside him; the party leaves both behind to march north.
