Reclamation Signet
The Reclamation's dog tags, issued to everyone in the expedition (the party got theirs late, at the Varian embassy in Fort Foothold). Functions: identification (your official ID number), a casualty system (pull the signet from the fallen and return it to any Reclamation settlement to log the death), space to scratch a next of kin on the back — and a bulk enchantment by the Mage's Society that makes the bearer "less likely to die": +3 maximum HP.
Session 8
Session 9
- Etiquette established: show them freely inside the wall (proof you're on the right side); outside, people get skittish.
- The enforcement side surfaced at Ankley: after an incident, refusing to give your signet number to authority is the one thing the Reclamation pact won't tolerate — treason-tier, manhunt territory. Lash refused hers anyway; Thalia covertly read the tag (worn as a necklace) and relayed the number to Vernon Cleave.
Session 10
- The casualty system met its grim use case: 7 signets looted from Roger Payton's pirate camp, pulled from victims of their raids (Ankley Island). The party is carrying them back to Fort Foothold so the deaths can be logged.
Session 20
- The signet's identification function mattered in death: the ashes of a young man vaporized by Dr. Provostinalkov's lasers (Session 19) were read via Identify as a Reclamation signet bearer — prompting the party to seek out his next of kin (whose name the signet would carry) via the Reclamation office.
Session 21
- The dead lab-intruder is named by Silithane to Eldrich the Elder as "Franz Sands Aylwater" — and the name reads as Varian, not Reclamation, the reveal that Varia knows about the doctor. (Whether he was truly a signet-bearing Reclamation man or a Varian agent is now muddied.)
- As the party crosses the Palisade, the signets' badge numbers are exchanged warily with caravan members — Tycho memorizes Silithane's "in the unlikely event you perish."
Session 48
- Smuggled past an occupied gate. Entering the Laewendas-held Menagoles, where a signet would mark him as Reclamation, Jex hid his signet inside his own body — being an Oozen slime, he simply stuck it physically inside himself (not a magic storage ability; player ruling), defeating the gate pat-down ("elbow deep" to find it).
