Draak
Player: Ryan · Member of The Shattered Coin — replacing Kain as of Session 7
An 8-foot-tall lizardman (10'2" by some counts; "absolutely galactic," per Sir Danica's appraisal) in a leather X-vest and loincloth, with the worldview of someone "born like a week ago" — because by his own account he was born on the boat during the crossing, attended ship school with Magra (they taught him shapes and counting to 10), and intends to die on a boat too. Speaks in the third person, calls money "shinies," considers everyone he has ever met his friend, and would rather make friends with monsters than fight them. Magra holds his money. How he relates to the vanished Kain — whose gold he inherited and whose sheet the GM still keeps — is an open mystery; the party's explanations contradict each other.
During the voyage he guarded the entrance to Jugs's hidden operation (unpaid — he volunteered), and protected the stowaway Veilwood princess Vana Vermillion for over ten days after scaring her negligent guard into opening her hidden cabin.
Session 7
- Born from the flame. At the Firebrand Church ceremony aboard The Expedition Ship, Kain's self-sacrifice fed the Flame Queen statue, which
birthed a fully-grown, scaled, confused 8-foot lizardman. Flamespeaker Nina named
his species ("you appear to be a Drak") and he adopted it as his name on the spot. - A week-old worldview from minute one: counts only to 10 ("why would you need more
than 10?"), thinks everyone he meets is a friend, hates being stood too close to,
eats chalk and lunch bags, and breaks egg-timers "in case someone's inside." Took the
four-hands handshake from Magra as a contest ("I win"). - Enrolled in 25 days of ship school with Magra and Lash; sat ahead
of the answer-copying hellbrand Ingustus. Magra became his guardian and
money-holder (the inherited 26 coins). - Got a great club from the quartermaster, which Lash spiked into an
Improved Great Club (+2 damage); was handed Silithane's cursed
War Machine Club ("the bad one"), feared it, and had a ghost-catcher break its
attunement — paying her one candle. Adopted a ship's cat (a familiar) and started
learning to read from the fish-lady scholar. - Briefly convinced he was dying when told his HP "leaks"; learned Draks live ~200
years and won a later argument with the ghost-catcher about it on a technicality.
Session 8
- Debuted ashore at Fort Foothold: hated land immediately ("it doesn't wiggle waggle"), so he found the gnome fisherman Leif and the boatwright Gizbump and put his entire 2 gold down on a 50-gold "land boat" — see The Land Boat, which the whole party ended up funding and which he now pulls by the chain.
- Sprinted to volunteer as Sir Danica's squire; named his greatest slain foe ("Fenric") and fairest maiden rescued ("Vana Vermillion") — accidentally revealing the princess to a knight of the realm — then denied recognizing the ship she pointed at. Talked out of squiring by Magra and Fenric.
- Filled out the Varian embassy form in crayon drawings; got the whispered "Remember, Varia loves you" and kept all the crayons.
- The GM's hook, on the record: Drak "will have a strong reason to hate the queen when he starts seeing what she's done with the Flame."
- Learned the word of the day (hidebound) and tomorrow's (behemoth — "Oh, like me"); has 8 months to use hidebound in a sentence for 1 gold.
Session 9
- Won the sparring test against Sir Ronald of Chapston's initiates by picking up The Land Boat (Str 23) and throwing it onto six of them — the fight's only real injuries. His fire-breath debut rolled a 1 ("like opening the oven door"). His spiked club is confirmed Lash-improved (+2 damage) with +1 fire "from Firebrand Church of the All-Flame Queen."
- Doubled down on Flame Queen cosmology — the Queen made the sun, the sun may be an egg — which sent Lash sun-staring into blindness; he threw a rock at the sun in her defense ("it looks like it gets it").
- The freak incident at Ankley: when the bard Raymond called him "the freak that ordered the chunky crispy soup," Drak dragged his club across the floor, lifted Raymond to ear height for an apology, and made him faint and soil himself — emptying the inn and terrifying the village. He later apologized to Vernon Cleave, gave his signet number first, and asked that the others be spared.
- Left wounded: "Everyone in Ankley, they thought I was a freak. They were okay with it." Wants to go "somewhere where people are tolerant." Still not allowed to do "anus things."
Session 10
- Processed the freak incident his own way: rebuilt the tavern scene in stones (the
car-sized boulder was him) and extracted the lesson — "the bigger one does not hit
first. Everyone gets scared." Later gave the boulder a smiley face and a love heart
and grieved leaving it behind ("Don't worry, he's rock solid" — Fenric). - Carried The Land Boat through Silithane's "portal" to Ankley Island
("boat needs rest"), got bored of ruin archaeology, and wandered alone into the
pirate camp — triggering the session's battle (opening lost to a recording gap). - Battle highlights: tanked back-to-back crits, defended the captive Tegrak from
his abuser, Olympic hammer-threw a grappled pirate into a bowman (both into the
sea, one "folded in half twice"), and ended the last pirate after a 24 intimidation
met a nat-1 intelligence check. - Claimed Payton's Giant Cutlass as his new weapon, appointed himself Tegrak's
guardian ("Tegrak, hero of the pirate killing!"), ruled the bounty goes to Tegrak
for the killing blow, and interrogated the ethics of prisons: "If we have a
prisoner, does that not make us the bad people?"
Session 11
- Said a brief goodbye to Tegrak by refusing to share his own pre-held gold with him ("He's getting a shot on the boat — that's good enough"), then softened enough to stand behind Silithane when the bounty was sorted out correctly.
- Knelt on the boatwright's floor (with Magra) to beg for the 10-gold-each rowboat deal after revealing they were Payton's boats — eventually succeeded. "He's dead, goddammit."
- At the coelodon encounter: shrugged off the water spray ("a toddler using a water gun on their dad"), stood on the clifftop, and called down to everyone fighting the baby sea monster below: "What are you guys doing down there? Leave the little fishy alone."
- Acquired a set of tiny carved wooden action figures — Fenric's nat-20 craft project: a scale model of the Land Boat with every party member chiseled from wood. Drak claimed it immediately so no one else could have a copy of him. Now stores it in his inventory.
- Made friends with road paver Malcolm (a hug) and a Gwyndinas city guard (also a hug — "this guy loves you"). Added both to his growing friends list.
Session 12
- Got a "I love Snake" wristband from The Serpent and adopted instant devotion to an animal he'd never met; pleaded all session for the Serpent to be the party's sixth fighter.
- Sent to find Lash's blacksmith supplies, he instead "found a responsible adult" — Johnny (John Dean), a lonely old human who showed him the dog park and ran fake mystery hunts for him. Through Johnny he learned Gwyndinas's anti-human bias (a human once "killed all the gods") and settled his own cosmology: the Fire Queen is his dad, the boat is his mom.
- Took +1 Athletics from the training camp. Lash serrated his Giant Cutlass (+2 damage).
- In the killipede fight, got mind-charmed out of combat on round 2 and danced with the hawk for five of seven rounds — accidentally becoming crowd favorite "the Bird Dancer." Nearly ruined it by re-entering, then committed to the bit.
- Anchored the Grievek fight with reckless attacks (advantage cancelling the brute's glow-imposed disadvantage) and crits; lost a scale to a poison and demanded it grow back ("It's better grow back, you fucking monster"). It did.
Session 13
- Spent the day on a quixotic hunt for a "meat shield" (a shield made of meat, so monsters eat it instead of him) and kept interrogating every butcher as "the killer of the animals."
- Landed the killing blow on the grief demon: ignored mid-rage, he eventually grabbed Fenric's Silvered Short Sword (on a coin flip), swung it like a club, and the doubled silver damage dropped the demon for exactly his remaining HP.
- Took the demon's grief illusions on the chin, inventing escalating absurd "saddest memories" (a rock he tried to teach to swim drowned; no soup left at his birth). When Lash crawled into the underworld hole, he tearfully nearly sealed it shut "like Varia" to spare her.
Session 15
- Rejoined the investigation party at the All Saints Cathedral, baffled that the others had been doing detective work while he "was having soup."
- Adopted Jill the kobold as his "brother-cousin" (both descended from the Elder Dragon Bael'Drakkor, whom Jill fundraises for), donated a platinum and chalk, then stood silent guard so no one would spit on the little kobold — turning Jill's worst day into his best fundraising ever. Plans to hire Jill to collect donations once the party's inn is thriving.
- Worked the "land of boat" birthright all session — a birth certificate literally reading "boat" got the party free Westport⇄Eastport ferry passage, and he befriended the minotaur boatman Salvador.
- Relentlessly demanded the Mage's Society produce a "liquid wizard" who could explain the missing blood, mangling Professor Wind Douglas's name endlessly ("Mr. Window Glass") and trying to walk through a scrying illusion. Claimed a jar of embalming fluid from the morgue in lieu of "confiscated cupcakes."
- Grew thoroughly sick of "talk, talk, talk" and book-people — likening the wasted day to the time he charred meat into charcoal — and wants arena fights tomorrow, not more mages.
Session 16
- Anchored the alley ambush with reckless swings of his big pirate greatsword (60- and 20-damage chomps), tanked dagger-stabs and a point-blank gunshot to the face on his high AC and rage resistance.
- Intimidated a near-dead thug into surrender (nat-20: "stand down or die"), then tied up the surrendered prisoners with his durable boat-rope and hoisted two onto his shoulders — "well, that's a job well done today, Palumbo."
- No arena tomorrow, with Ashlyn recovering from death.
Session 17
- Landed the session's big plot hook by accident: wandered to the inner-city Palisade gate hunting signatures, befriended the elite Inner Guard he named "Ruin," and surfaced Eldrich the Elder's standing job to kill one of Laewendas's inner circle. Signed the party up unseen and sent Fenric's carved party-figurines along as a preview; got a parting Bless.
- Negotiated like Drak: "How does cream help slay the circle?", refused to bare his fangs in case a smile reads as aggression, and told the guard the party would fight in "3 days plus 1."
- Arena anchor again: reckless-attacked the squires as the party's main damage, tanked the blind knight's giant blade, was dropped to 0 once (death saves), and tried to first-aid the downed Lash by breathing his whole fire cone over her — drying out the soaking axolotlan instead of burning her ("okay, I did that on purpose").
- Couldn't grasp the win-by-Suggestion: when Silithane tricked the blind knight into walking out, Drak (negative INT) kept furiously re-raging and attacking her ("We're fighting now!"), nearly getting himself killed — until Silithane Sleep-spelled him and Lash to end the fight. Wakes up next session "somewhere else."
Session 18
- The "roadblock" of the sewer fight: stood at the chokepoint and soaked nearly every bite from the ~65-strong mushroom swarm — repeatedly forced into fungal-infection CON saves and never once infected, thanks to cookies, Lash's save-aura and Magic-Hammer rerolls. His fire breath whiffed round after round ("I'm never breathing fire again").
- Couldn't whisper when Fenric asked the group to stealth: "They didn't teach me that spell" — then loudly, as Bael'Drakkor: "Why? Earthworm." Kept lobbying to just say hello to the plant-people instead of fighting.
- Overt feminism: fixated on hunting down the lone, dice-blessed "mushroom woman" ("A woman?" / "I'm pro-feminist, equal rights"), and took to picking up mushroom men and hurling them across the sewer for fun (some surviving the throw to chomp onward).
Session 19
- Befriended the Thorn Giant that collected him on its shelf, demanding (and receiving) a full "100% hug" that he sank clean through, and gifting the creature embalming fluid. Adopted Roto and Tolo, the stick-men who kept bonking his shins, as "tree puppies" and refused to let anyone kill them.
- Fell in the green sewer water doing a backflip push-up and came out glowing; was bopped, kicked and hammered through a "chiropractic" healing comedy (he was at 78/88, "too healthy to heal"). Dr. Provostinalkov gave him glow-cure pills and perfume ("I smell like cake now").
- The demolition crew of the dungeon: punched a head-sized hole through the secret false wall, then smashed through a brick wall into the changeling's inner safehouse, opening up the session's big find.
- Recognized his nutrient cube as the doctor's own invention (from Jugs on the ship) and tried, as ever, to make a new friend of the lonely scientist.
Session 20
- Still glowing green from his Session-19 dunk in the sewer runoff, and cheerfully offered to swallow a silver coin ("You get it back eventually").
- Asked the night's quiet philosophical question — when Kain stepped into the fire and Drak stepped out, is the old person just gone, or do you keep their memories? — pointedly raised alongside the memory-stealing changeling the party had just interrogated.
Session 21
- Left the party (Ryan stepping away from the campaign — after Kain and Drak, "maybe I'm just not feeling it"). In-fiction, Reclamation officers collect the 24-day-old "child soldier" by name and cart him off to "daycare"/school; he gives heartfelt goodbyes and goes happily ("I love caring for days").
- His gear is divvied among the group: 120 gold split (24 each), his minor/basic healing potions, and the land boat left to the party (he's "going to school, doesn't need land nor boat"). His high-roll Pirate's Greatsword (3d6, extra attacks on a triple) is left on him rather than broken down — too big for anyone else to wield — in case he ever returns.
- Still glowing green and armed with his big club; departs with the Smiling Sam/Veilwood era of the party behind him and his connection to Kain's memories left an open question.
Character Sheet (mechanics)
In-play co-pilot sheet. Mechanics mined from the session transcripts and the vault notes (which cite sessions); no formal player sheet was available. Values are observed/stated only — anything not witnessed is marked unknown. Draak (player Ryan) is RETIRED: an active PC from Session 07 (born from Kain's self-sacrifice) until he left in Session 21 (Reclamation officers carted the "child soldier" off to "daycare"/school) — his Pirate's Greatsword was left on him in case he ever returns.
Identity
- Class: Barbarian (inferred — never labeled in play, but he Rages, makes Reckless Attacks, is proficient in Constitution saves, and halves bludgeoning/piercing/slashing damage while raging — all Barbarian features). Matches the DM Companion martial line "Barbarian — STR & CON, Damage/Tank/Mobile" (
dm_companion.txt:144). Exact subclass unknown. (Session 09, Session 16, Session 18) - Species: Dragonborn, Draak subspecies — the "Dragonborn: Kobold, Draak, Winged" line of the DM Companion (
dm_companion.txt:159); named on the spot by Flamespeaker Nina ("you appear to be a Drak") and adopted as his name (Session 07). Kin to the kobold Jill (also a Dragonborn subspecies), his self-declared "brother-cousin" (Session 15). - Level: unknown — never stated for Draak. The party was level 5 around Session 18 (stated for Ashlyn); Draak presumably leveled alongside them, but no Draak level was ever announced.
- Size / age: an 8-foot (10'2" by some counts) lizardman, born during the voyage and only ~24 days old when he left (Session 07, Session 21); Draks reportedly live ~200 years (Session 07).
- Player: Ryan. Member of The Shattered Coin, replacing Kain from Session 07.
Combat stats
- AC: unknown as a number — described only as "high AC" (tanked a point-blank gunshot to the face on AC + rage resistance, Session 16).
- Max HP: 88 — stated "78 out of 88" when too healthy to be healed (Session 19).
- Saves: proficient in Constitution saves (the GM made him re-roll mistaken "checks" as proper CON saves vs. fungal infection, never once infected, Session 18). Other save bonuses unknown as numbers.
- Initiative: unknown.
- Strength: very high — Strength modifier +6 (his club damage was tallied as "d10 + 6 strength + 2 [Lash] + 1 fire," Session 09), consistent with the Str 23 the GM granted (with advantage) to pick up and throw The Land Boat onto six initiates (Session 09).
- Mental stats: negative / very low — repeatedly fails or voids INT checks (a nat-1 INT, and kept re-raging instead of grasping a win-by-Suggestion, Session 17); his WIS was joked as "minus 5" at the table (Session 16). Treated as flavor; exact scores unknown.
Abilities / signature moves
- Rage (signature) — enters a reckless fury; applies a stated +2 he toggles on his sheet (Session 16) and halves incoming bludgeoning/piercing/slashing damage ("3 points halved to 1," Session 18). Used throughout (Session 09, Session 12, Session 13, Session 16, Session 17).
- Reckless Attack — attacks with advantage (cancelled a brute's glow-imposed disadvantage, Session 12; "reckless attack him... split him in half with the big pirate greatsword," Session 16; arena main-damage anchor, Session 17).
- Fire breath (Draak species trait) — a 15-foot cone of fire (a 30-foot line option was also weighed, Session 18); debut rolled a 1 ("like opening the oven door," Session 09) and it whiffed repeatedly in the sewers ("I'm never breathing fire again," Session 18). Once aimed the whole cone over the downed Lash to "first-aid" her — drying the axolotlan out instead of burning her (Session 17).
- Improvised-weapon throws / raw Strength — threw the ~17.5-ft The Land Boat onto six initiates (Session 09); Olympic-hammer-threw a grappled pirate into a bowman, both into the sea (Session 10); hurled mushroom-men across the sewer for fun (Session 18). (GM caps improvised weapons around 3–4d8, Session 09.)
- Intimidation — a nat-20 "stand down or die" surrender (Session 16); a 32 (with Lash's 54) that made a bard faint and soil himself, emptying a village (Session 09); a 24 finishing a pirate (Session 10).
Gear
- Improved Great Club — quartermaster greatclub Lash-spiked for +2 damage, plus +1 fire damage "from Firebrand Church of the All-Flame Queen"; full line d10 + 6 (Str) + 2 (Lash) + 1 fire (Session 07, Session 09). Still "armed with his big club" at departure (Session 21).
- Giant Cutlass — Payton's huge cutlass claimed in Session 10, later serrated by Lash for +2 damage (Session 12).
- Pirate's Greatsword — his high-roll big weapon (3d6, with extra attacks on a triple — "5, 6, 6, you nearly won the slot machine"); the alley/arena main damage (Session 16, Session 17). Left on him at retirement (too big for anyone else to wield) in case he returns (Session 21).
- War Machine Club — Silithane's cursed club handed to him; he had its attunement broken by a ghost-catcher for one candle (Session 07).
- Carved party figurines — Fenric's nat-20 craft: a wooden Land Boat with every party member; Drak claimed the set so no one else could have a copy of him (Session 11).
- "Giacomo-sized" canvas bag — held 60 lbs of party candy (Session 09); also carried embalming fluid, chalk, his nutrient cube, the action figures, etc.
- Healing potions — minor/basic potions, divvied to the party on his exit (Session 21).
- Coin — inherited Kain's 26 coins (held by Magra, Session 07); on exit the party split 120 gold, 24 each (Session 21).
- The Land Boat — the 50-gold cart-boat he funded and pulled by chain (Session 08); left to the party when he retired (Session 21).
Status
- RETIRED. Active from Session 07 through Session 21. In-fiction, Reclamation officers collected the ~24-day-old "child soldier" by name and carted him off to "daycare"/school; he gave heartfelt goodbyes and went happily ("I love caring for days") (Session 21).
- Last on-screen state: still glowing green from his Session 19 sewer-water dunk, armed with his big club, his Pirate's Greatsword left on him pending a possible return; his connection to Kain's memories left an open question (Session 20, Session 21).
SUMMARY: Retired Dragonborn (Draak) Barbarian; Str mod +6, 88 HP, Reckless Rage + 15-ft fire-breath cone, 3d6 Pirate's Greatsword — AC/level/scores unknown, transcript-mined.
