The Aberforth Speakeasy
A food-only eatery in Ponterford and the town's bounty-board hub — the long-hunted contact from Caressa's letter (Session 31–Session 33). The deliberate inverse of the rowdy Speak Loudly across the road: hushed, with patrons whispering, a cloth-muffled bell, almost no chairs (you stand to eat), and a trust-based self-serve counter of pastries, milkshakes, breads and cheese (no alcohol — the founder hated the drunken brawling, and a misread "no drink" sign stopped them serving drinks at all). Its quiet makes it useless for a spy's eavesdropping but ideal for the town's many gossips.
Founded by Aberoth, and now run by his son Abely — a quiet man who privately worships at the witches' church and is a friend of Valmora. The town sheriff Jeremiah Falconer takes his meals here.
(Long heard only as "the Aberforth Speakeasy"; the proprietors render as Aberoth/Aberith and Abely/Aberly.)
Session 34
- Found and entered at last. Valmora greets her friend Abely; the party finally delivers Caressa's looted letter, which proves to be a personal keepsake from Abely's late father Aberoth — Abely tears up and pockets it.
- Jeremiah Falconer pays out King Ringo's 100-gold crocolion bounty here and offers the drake-skeleton job.
- Two elven regulars from Marmoth — dim Malus/"Miku" and his minder Malice — trade town gossip; the bounty board also lists "Pissy Joseph the Weird Piss Thief," the tomato creatures, and the slain crocolion.
