Venatori
The elite monster hunters of the Veilwood — protectors of its towns against
nightwalkers, werewolves and the curse's creations. Famous for exotic hunting gear:
bladed hooks on chains, oversized swords, and ground-braced crossbows that fire
bolts the length of an axolotlan's arm. Some chapters quietly smuggle silver
despite the province's vampire ruler ("I don't know if they're allowed silver
weapons — the leader of the country is a vampire").
Their repairsmith of choice was Lash — Venatori traveled from far away
for her — and they "encouragedly conscripted" her into the reclamation (with a rope
and a cart). Feyfolk Venatori once saved her from a blackened monster, leaving her a
fey boon.
Session 6
- Fleshed out via Lash's backstory at the night circle: the weird-weapon repairs,
the smuggled-silver jobs done around backwoods campfires (where she first silvered
blades), and the rope-and-cart recruitment ("but I knew them, so it was okay"). - Lash hopes the expedition eventually circles back to her old town — her things are
still there.
Session 12
- One of the Gwyndinas Colosseum's top arena teams: their finest 6 fight as a
leaderless unit to fundraise for the order (they self-fund), in the trap-and-height
northwest arena, fighting as ambush predators who gang up on the weakest target. The
arena lists them as the most dangerous opponent — "they will just kill you." Lash
wondered whether she'd recognize any of them from her repairsmith days.
Session 17
- The party watched the Venatori six demonstrate in the arena on their way in:
wall-running, rope-bridge archery, and acrobatic kick-flip stabs — and notably
non-lethally stabilizing / reviving every opponent they downed, pointedly unlike
the lethal Atollian and Varian champion teams ("if you lose to them, they will kill
some of you").
Session 21
- Lash tells Eldrich the Elder plainly the Venatori conscripted
her — "dragged me away from home" — which Eldrich notes is not how the Reclamation
recruits ("the Venatori have very strange ideas of what they can and can't do"). She
declines to have them punished; she came to like the life. - Their role as Veilwood hunters/protectors is reaffirmed when Lash advises the
beast-tamer to hand any future smuggled Veilwood creatures to passing Venatori, "they'll
know what to do with it."
