Lash has spent the night at the forge. She delivers Gravek claw tips for Fenric and a +1 silvered longsword for Silithane, reforged from the blade she stole off him while he slept. Minimika spins the Deciphering Tablet like a Rubik's Cube and cracks two more digits. Long Tim runs Jex through a plyboard maze and files a diagnosis: gelatinous, four out of seven on the sentience scale, dromomania, invasive oral predator.

Then Thalia asks the gemologist Anita to look at her void stone. Anita touches a shard of the Autarch to it down thirty-two feet of calipers. The stone cracks, something tall and half-seen stands up, and the shard unmakes it. Then Anita starts crying at a workshop with two desks, two chairs, and a locket painted with an empty beach. The stone had eaten her wife out of existence. Fenric works out the rest: the void came from space, and five stars are left in the sky.

Four swear an oath and are given the shard. They walk out through the north tunnel, two days from home — with the two symbiotes the party voted to destroy still alive in Lash's pack. She refused, and she is still furious...
