Snuffles

The little mole-man alchemist of the Menagoles — one of the town's skilled residents who vanished under Laewendas's regime, missing about two months as of Session 48, and remembered by a townswoman for having taught her that water is an alchemical ingredient. The party believes it found him alive at the forbidden Middle Tor mine, put to work refining the glowing crystal the mine digs — i.e. reproducing the Shard of the Autarch substance that Dr. Provostinalkov has already learned to make. The wrinkle is that the mine holds two mole-men, and only one of them carries the name.

Session 48 (missing)

• Reported by townsfolk as a kidnapped alchemist, a mole-man who disappeared weeks-to-months ago — one of the vanishings the party ties to Orathos Keep and the disappearances of skilled folk.

Session 50 (found)

• The alchemist in the shed. Through the window Lash watches an unnamed mole-man consult a book, grind the mine's glowing ore-dust with herbs, leaves and roots into a glowing bowl, and carry it to his alchemy station — where it turns to black sludge in the beaker and fails; he curses and starts over.
• The mole-man at the ore vein. Deeper in, the miner whose token reads Snuffles works the vein alongside Lampy (full-time lamp-holder) and Big Dig Gav. He is completely blind and star-nosed, and smells Lash moving — his little star nose swings round and points straight at her.
• The identification is the party's own. Thalia remembers the missing alchemist was called Snuffles and was a mole person, and the party concludes the shed alchemist must be him and that this is where the kidnapped skilled folk have gone. The GM confirmed only "you've heard both about an alchemist and a blacksmith going missing, and you've seen both an alchemist and a blacksmith here" — which of the two mole-men is which was never settled on mic.
