Roger Payton

A pirate captain wanted dead by the Reclamation for piracy, looting, and raiding. His crew camped on Ankley Island, a mile off the coast of Ankley — named hands included Rowena Stormbreaker, Sam Rackham, and the hired "deck wizard" Devlin, alongside unnamed archers, rifle-toting rowboat-men, and "shouty boys." Payton wielded a magical Giant Cutlass (a "high roll" multiattack) and rum-fueled fire breath, and kept the orc Tegrak as a captive.

Session 9

• Introduced only as a name on Ankley's bounty board: "Wanted dead: Roger Payton and his men" — inquiries directed to the beach tavern, the Sand Gets In.

Session 10

• Killed on Ankley Island: Thalia dragged him into his own bear trap with Thorn Whip (52 damage) and dealt the finishing blow.

The 'Peyton' letter — same man, or name collision? (GM handout, 2026-07-26)

A letter headed "Peyton's Instructions", signed by the bandit lord Mindel Cromelon, contracts a blade named Peyton to take the smuggler's run east of Keraford, camp near Foothold, "cut off the fresh meat at the source" — and closes "Same deal as always - gold for blood. Glory to Laewendas."

Whether this Peyton is Roger Payton is genuinely open. For: the vault already carries both spellings (Payton/Peyton) for this pirate, the work is the same trade, and Cromelon operates in the same region. Against: Payton was killed on Ankley Island in Session 10, and the letter's "same deal as always" implies a standing relationship the party never saw. If it is him, the letter is either pre-Session 10 or evidence he outlived his reported death. Flagged rather than merged.
