The Expedition Ship
The enormous vessel — "a giant ship made for the queen" — carrying the reclamation
expedition from Port Quaybay to Rivalon in Orathos. Sails and an
engine; famously (and demonstrably) both fireproof and waterproof. Crossing time:
21 days nominal, 10–40 depending on winds. It runs the route every ~40 days.
(No proper name given yet.)
Layout so far:
- Top deck — crew, rigging, the seasick; the war planners' area (Veilwood folk,
two Atollians, the Mage's Society, extra Varians, and the decoy Queen of Varia —
no Firebrands, no "snow people"). - Middle deck — galley/refreshments (best food early in the voyage), free-for-all
hammocks and bunks, cannon stations; card games on a cow-skin rug; Lash's
Blacksmithing Emporium and Tilda's cart in the defensible corner. - Lower decks / cargo hold — Firebrand territory; treasure, crates, and the
guarded hatch to the Holy Chambers of the Flame Queen statue: a 20×15×20 ft
burning half-angel half-dragon statue for making "super soldiers" (entry: the
Blessed, plus up to 6 idiots; features a bone pit).
Session 5
- Boarded and departed; the party met its recurring cast: Pam, Ugo,
Figueroa, Tilda, the chef (wants Kain cooking all 21 days), the old
airship pilot hunting a cabin boy he's never looked at, the kissing sailors, and a
cucumber-loving ship's cat. - An animated table with hands roams the deck cargo (two groin injuries so far).
- Brebo Goldfang, Daewynn and the parallel adventuring group are aboard;
Laila said she'd stow away but hasn't been spotted.
Session 6
- Lower decks fleshed out: a working ship's forge aft of the great pillar (its
deaf old keeper lent Lash the smelter she promptly relocated);
Gravis's coffins beside a dark elf's cages of spirits caught at sea; a
piano-composer writing down "the sickest tunes"; a darkened map corner claimed by
Sir Conolith; and Jugs's drug still under the stairs — which now employs
half the party. - Laila is confirmed aboard, hiding in the dark corner until landfall —
spectral ghost assassins occasionally burst straight through the hull hunting her. - The Holy Chambers run "showings" of the fire ceremony roughly every 8 hours;
consolation lozenges are available at the door. - The GM dated the voyage "the 3rd of mid-spring on your Crown's Wake journey" —
possibly the ship's name at last.
Session 7
- The whole 25-day crossing rendered as one session (the GM abandoned the
timeline). The Holy Chambers shown in full: ~1,000 chanting Firebrands, 50–100
pews, conductor-priests, a humanoid-heavy bone pit, and the blue-flame statue that
consumed Kain and birthed Draak. - New shipboard fixtures: a Flame Queen ship-school running 8 AM–8 PM for the whole
voyage (teaching the church's "newborns" Orathi basics); the galley's one-way soup
line (anti-scurvy lemon-cube stew); and the dark-elf ghost-catchers' cage operation
detailed (silver-lined cages dragged along the hull to net the channel's shipwreck
spirits). - There is no real top deck map layer — "windy and cold," and passengers are asked
to keep off it while the crew sails. Laila is still hiding aboard (now with skeleton
allies); a hidden VIP cabin holds Vana Vermillion but is never reached on-screen this session.
Session 8
- The crossing is over: 25 days at sea (winds added 4–5 days), docking at
Southport in Fort Foothold. Sir Danica pointed at "the Crownswake" and
the GM spoke of "10,000 soldiers coming off the Crown's Wake" — strong evidence
that is the ship's name. - The unrecorded tail of the voyage left marks: a hidden VIP cabin where the
party found Uva Blackheart and the princess Vana Vermillion (and got the "fat man"
who let them in punished); Draak was "born on the boat," went to ship school
with Magra, and guarded Jugs's door; Kain did not walk off the ship. - Queen Ysolde gave her landing speech from its rear platform, and the ship —
being sprayed down for the return run — sails on to Gwyndinas with her aboard.
